The Role: WorldQuant is seeking a Tax Associate to support its growing tax function. This role will provide essential assistance with compliance, research, and tax-related operational matters while serving as an additional point of contact for internal and external partners. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This position will work closely with the Tax Director, other internal teams, and external tax service providers to ensure efficient tax compliance and risk management. Additionally, this individual will support tax-related documentation efforts, assist in managing travel-related tax risk, and serve as a resource to the payroll tax department. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional with expertise in partnership taxation looking to expand their experience in a dynamic and sophisticated financial organization.
Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare and review tax work papers to support tax filings
- Review K-1s, tax returns, and supporting documents from external service providers
- Assist with federal, state, and international tax filings as needed
- Prepare and file 1042s, 1099s, and pass-through entity payments
- Manage tax payment processes, extensions, and required government filings (e.g., F-Bar)
- Ensure compliance with FATCA regulations, including processing W-9 requests
- Documentation & Research
- Prepare internal memos to document tax positions and regulatory interpretations
- Research state and federal tax issues, providing analysis and recommendations
- Track legislative changes and their impact on the company’s tax obligations
- Coordination with External Service Providers
- Serve as an additional point of contact for external tax advisors and accounting firms
- Assist in responding to tax authority inquiries and audits in collaboration with external advisors
- Support quarterly and annual tax estimates through coordination with service providers.
- Tax Risk & Operational Support
- Assist in managing the corporate travel program, ensuring compliance with permanent establishment regulations in various jurisdictions
- Respond to travel requests in coordination with Human Resources to mitigate tax risks
- Support annual compliance efforts related to aircraft management, including tracking and calculating usage hours for tax reporting purposes.
- Joint Venture & Internal Stakeholder Support
- Act as a resource for investor inquiries related to joint ventures
- Liaise with portfolio managers on tax-related questions
- Coordinate with the capital development team on tax matters impacting investment-related operations
- Departmental Structure & Redundancy
- Assist in structuring and documenting tax department procedures for operational efficiency
- Provide continuity and support in the absence of the Tax Director to ensure uninterrupted tax operations.
- Serve as an additional resource to the payroll tax processor, supporting tax-related payroll inquiries while not directly handling payroll tax filings
- Transfer Pricing & Section 174 Compliance
- Support annual transfer pricing documentation and reporting efforts
- Assist in compliance with Section 174 amortization of software development costs, coordinating within the firm to meet annual requirements
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in taxation, with a focus on partnership taxation
- Strong understanding of partnership tax compliance, tax filings, and regulatory requirements
- Familiarity with FATCA, K-1s, pass-through entities, and tax payments
- Experience working with external tax service providers
- Ability to research and analyze state and federal tax laws
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA, EA, or Master’s degree in Taxation is a plus
- Experience with multi-state tax compliance
- Knowledge of permanent establishment risks and international tax matters
- Familiarity with transfer pricing concepts
- Prior experience in a financial services or investment firm

WorldQuant is a total compensation organization where you will be eligible for a base salary, discretionary performance bonus, and benefits. The estimated salary range for this position is $100,000 to $150,000 which is specific to New York and may change in the future. When finalizing an offer, we will take into consideration an individual’s experience level and the qualifications they bring to the role to formulate a competitive total compensation package.
